The DVD burner is junk and HP wouldn't let me take the PC to a service center, but is actually sending me a new optical drive which I have to install myself (this has taken nearly 4 weeks to arrange, and the replacement to supposed to arrive this week). The location of the A/V remote control. I also liked the fold down size of this 14.1" HP compared to the rather large 15.4" Toshiba. While the computer continues to impress me, I can't stress how AWFUL HP customer service has been. So this HP looked good on specs when compared to the Toshiba I had. I bought this with my 2008 stimulus check + $150.
I was also impressed by the accessories that I bought for the Toshiba that were made by HP. For some reason Window Media Player doesn't work on this unit at all, so I use VLC Media player instead. After owning a Toshiba 15.4" laptop and trying to run online using a T-Mobile aircard, I ended up destroying the Toshiba. The only problems I've encountered was the misunderstanding of disabling the scroll pad when using a mouse. In terms of Customer Service Toshiba is superior, compared to HP. I decided that if I was going to buy another laptop that I needed to invest in a 1.5 MB DSL connection.
And the Toshiba only had 80 GB of harddrive & 512 MB of RAM, which I increased to 1.5 GB.
Have had for almost a year now-no complaints. Great product. Like the Vista.
The only bad thing is that it gets really hot, and I haven't found a cooler for it. It is a very good laptop, and i'm really happy with it.
I tried to install Xp in this laptop, but turns out most of the drivers are ONLY for windows vista :S. Have patience though, when the computer gets too slow for your patience, ur only hope is formatting it to make it less slow again. This laptop is very well equiped and the looks are stunning. Vista makes this computer soo slow, it makes you want to break it and throw it away. Once again, thank you microsoft for screwing us all, again. the only problem is it only works with windows vista. I'm a hard gamer and i have computers with xp that have half of the stuff this one has and they work perfect.
I never thought I'd say this, but I miss my old Toshiba. Sometimes when i use the dropdown menu, the image of the menu freezes onscreen. Not only is this a heart attack in a box, but the people who are running HP are a complete waste of God's protoplasm. Every time i try to type, the cursor goes completely berserk and i have to wait for 15 or 20 seconds before the mouse pad even allows me to find my spot again.
Simply awful. PS- Windows Vista is a complete waste of God's protoplasm too.I hope the manufacturer did not go the extra mile to fireproof this money pit excuse for a high performance machine. If I could give this thing negative stars I would. A sales associate told me this was the best laptop they had (no wonder Office Depot is barely hanging on by a thread in Ft Worth), yet it can barely function as a vehicle for me to sit here and write a well-deserved one star review.
Really sucks for anyone who wants to do things one might reasonably expect to do on a computer, such as typing, renaming files, using the mousepad, and working in various programs. It's starting to get very cold and I wouldn't think of burning any of my old used books to start a fire before I gave this piece of rubbish the honor. First of all when you minimize a window the screen still shows strong residual images of the previous screen. even when I exit the menu, the drop down menu or part of it remains at about three fourths transparency in the forefront of the screen no matter what i do short of rebooting, even if i close the program.
